Mechanic Job Description

    1. Present a professional appearance at all times. (Dress appropriate, manicured look, shirts tucked in, company shirt etc.)
    2. Must provide basic mechanics tools.
    3. Have reliable transportation that can be used for work. Company pays a per diem for its use and the vehicle is one of your tools.
    4. Must have basic mechanical knowledge/skills.
    5. Must have a safety conscious attitude. The employee is expected to work safely at all times and shall never jeopardize their safety.
    6. Must speak, read and write English.
    7. This is an on call position. You are on call during the week and will alternate weekends per a monthly schedule. Response time is 30 minutes to the bridge after notification.
    8. Must be self motivated and able to accomplish tasks. You must complete your routine maintenance activities each week/month and complete logs, PM sheets and other documentation. All documentation shall be done in ink.
    9. Must complete all lubrication, cleaning, bolt checking/tightening as required and shall assist fellow employees (electricians, supervisors, mechanics, etc.) as necessary. This job includes work beyond basic mechanical work and includes plumbing, painting, pressure cleaning and other type work as required. Must work well with the bridge tenders and supervisors.
    10. Must be physically fit to perform the job. Vision 20/40 corrected and able to distinguish colors. Must be capable of lifting 50 lbs or more and pass all prescreening test.
    11. Must be reliable and dependable. 40 hours per week, all hours beyond 40 will be paid as overtime. However if you must work any overtime it must be approved by the project manager or the operations manager. It is your responsibility to manage your time and eliminate overtime when possible. Comp time is an acceptable alternative.
    12. Mechanics shall provide the minimum hours of maintenance per week per bridge. This must be an average per week, during the month which shall be communicated by the project manager.
    13. Must organize work and projects. Look for extra projects and work that are for the betterment of the bridges.
    14. Must have troubleshooting skills or capability to learn.
    15. Start time is from 6:30 AM to 9 AM. The company preference is 7 AM. Choose a time and stay with it. This is to show consistency.
    16. Keep the bridges clean and organized.
    17. The mechanic is responsible for supplies. If supplies are needed call the office administrative assistant and let her know what is needed and where it is needed at. Allow time for the delivery. Do not wait till you are out.  Follow up as necessary till orders are complete. You are responsible.
    18. Take ownership of the bridges. Treat them as they are yours.

Electricians Job Description

Bridge Tender--Job Description and Minimum Qualifications

Duties

  1. Operate the drawbridge properly and safely in accordance to regulations of the United States Coast Guard and with the State of Florida statutes.
  2. Complete bridge logs and reports – accurately, clearly and neatly
  3. Communicate on the radio in a “Polite, courteous and responsive” manor
  4. Keep the bridge and bridge tender house in a state of order and cleanliness at all times.
  5. Adhere to policies and instructions as given in the FDOT Bridge Operations manual, the bridge specific manual, and supplemental instructions as may be given by your supervisor.
  6. Adhere to all company policies and procedures.

Qualifications Requirements

  1. Corrected vision of 20/40 or better.
  2. Be able to distinguish red, amber, and green colors.
  3. Must be able to hear normal, and pass a screening test
  4. Must be able to climb bridge stairs and ladders
  5. Drug free
  6. Must be capable of hand cranking and/or removing bridge gate.
  7. Must be at least 18 years old.
  8. Must be able to walk to the bridge house from designated parking areas (may be lengthy)

Skills, knowledge, and ability for bridge tenders

  1. Must be able to read and comprehend FDOT and US Coast Guard manuals, rules, regulations, and procedures. (Classroom and on-site testing).
  2. Must be able to keep logs and records in accordance with FDOT procedures in correct, legible English.
  3. Must be able to effectively communicate in English on the VHF marine radio.
  4. Must be able to follow instructions.
  5. Must be able to perform minor maintenance on structures.
  6. After employment, must be able to meet qualification as a trained bridge tender. Tenders working on more than one bridge must be trained on each structure. Training is valid for 12 months for a specific bridge.

Dependability

  1. Work eight-hour shifts.
  2. Must be able to stay pass shift if relief does not show up.
  3. Get to work on time

Responsible 

  • Ability to identify unsafe conditions and react appropriately
  • Be aware and alert at all times.
  • Ability to stay calm under pressure.
  • Act professionally when faced with disrespectful behavior
