The Florida Drawbridge objective is to provide safe and reliable operation of the bridges, prevent failures and extend the life of the structures. This is accomplished by the implementation of a healthy and systematic maintenance program. Our plan includes inspections, maintenance and service to each and every part of the electrical, mechanical, hydraulic and structural body of the movable bridge and fender systems.

<  MECHANICAL SYSTEMS

The mechanical system of the bridges is like the muscular system of the body, transmitting the energy to move the structure. The operating machinery on a movable bridge is perhaps the most critical link in the successful operation of the bridge and thus requires the most maintenance and attention of any system on the bridge. Primarily this is due to the severe operating conditions which the bridge machinery experiences (salty, wet and subjected to roadway debri). The operating machinery on the bridges consists of different type of machinery, floor mounted, Hopkins frame, open face gears, shafts, pinions, pillow blocks, trunnions, pedestals, lock assemblies, gates, barriers, to name a few.

 

<  HYDRAULIC SYSTEMS

The movable bridge hydraulic system is like the vascular system of the body. The hydraulic power unit (HPU) is the heart and the hoses and piping are the vessels for the vital fluid. The hydraulic system is a vital mechanism in the dependable operation of a movable bridge. Thus, much like a mechanical and electrical system, hydraulic systems require a considerable amount of maintenance and attention to assure a proper and efficient functioning system. To that end, FD brings a vast knowledge of valving and pressure control experience.
